Gobalay People

The Gobalay are an Issid-ethnic people who inhabit the Gorval Peninsula of modern Ororr.

Lowland Gobalay people in the south of the peninsula are mixed with Gaal, Doroun and other ethnic groups of Ororrplugin-autotooltip__small plugin-autotooltip_bigOrorr

Ororr [o-ROARR, ɒ̝rɔ'ɾ], also called the Holy Motherland of Ororr, is a theocratic nation in Anásthias, one of the world's great powers. It the largest nation in the world, perhaps the largest empire in history, occupying the entire northwest of the continent between the mountains and the sea. Ororrlanguagelanguagelanguage, but Insular Gobalay, the people of the far northern and upland regions still have a significantly pure Gobalay population. All speak local variants of Doroun, but some Insular Gobalay still speak the ancient Gobalay language.

topics cult1 Gobalay means “people of Gobá”, Gobá being an ancestral deity, founder and father of the Gobalay. Gobá may also be name for a long forgotten place or homeland.

The Gobalay are descended from a Thalsic group who most likely migrated from the east some time in the Jade Epoch. They originally inhabited the whole Gorval peninsula, particularly the uplands which were cooler and safe from storm tides. They were a fierce tribal people who constantly warred on each other, and were considered barbarians by the Gaals and other northeastern peoples.

Towards the end of the Qedjeen Dynasty in Gaalkedch, the Gaal kings, who were traditionally subordinate to the Gaal Matriarchy, hired Gobalay mercenaries as royal guards, an independent elite force to replace the degenerated Gaal military.

The Gobalay Guard eventually led a coup against the Qedjeen, throwing the Gaal imperium into anarchy and civil war which eventually led to the creation of the Empire of Dor-en-Sann. The new empire brought some wealth to Gorval, but as their influence declined in the empire, the province slipped into peaceful rural obscurity. Gobalay fought on the side of the doomed Empire during the insurgency of the Great Prophet Therionplugin-autotooltip__small plugin-autotooltip_bigTherion

The Great Prophet Therion, founder of the Church of the Mother., but eventually swore fealty to the Prophet and willingly joined the new nation of Ororr.
