The common wild hog has short tusks which they use to dig roots and grubs from the soil. Wild hogs have a certain degree of virid tolerance, being able to consume some virid roots without ill effects. Consequently they are often kept in fallowed fields or pastures adjoining virid land.

There are hundreds of breeds, the brindled hog being common in Anrel, with the leaner roan hog more common in Harthera. Salt-hog is traditional sailors fare, carried by all modern merchant navies.
