Clanisjpor

Clanisjpor is a port city on the Umber Sea in Hesjbagaaia. It is the second city of the north, 150 km south of Nepor, with a slightly cooler and drier climate. In ancient times it was one of the great cities of the Rubaporat, ruled by the Poet Kings. cities:clanisjpor.png

Clanisjpor is a compact city, built on a gently sloping hillside with walls to the north and south. The higher slopes are the tower-houses of the aristocracy, famed for their perfumed step gardens, packed with aromatic plants that catch the gentle sea breeze. The lower city is more cramped but well ordered.

The local authorities are famously more fastidious than sprawling Nepor, and the two cities have a famous rivalry. Both still have an annual contest to elect a Poet King, who today has a merely ceremonial role as the leading cultural figure in the city. Clanisjpor is more famous for its theatre than its literature, so winners tend to be playwrights and dramatists. Poet Kings often “reign” for years or decades until challenged by a new contender, usually a new and more edgy playwright who can appeal to a broad section of society.

Sjbarca is a town on the island spit at the inner entrance to Clanisj Bay. It is connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway. On the east coast is an important naval harbour and fortification, since it guards the strategic approach to the city.
