Keeyag

Keeyag was an island in the Iskean Sea from c.6000-3200 BME. During the Celadon Epoch it was home to a civilisation that is mainly remembered for slavery and its brutal raids on the mainland coast.

It is now merely a sea reef between the coasts of modern Harthera and Besoa.

History

After the collapse of the civilisation of Traithe in the fifth millennium BME, a group of surviving heirophants, their vassals and slaves fled the mainland and built a new home on Keeyag. The island's coastline was rich in fish but its soils relatively poor. Consequently, the slave masters of Keeyag would send their whalebone ships to raid the mainland coast for food supplies and fresh slaves, so the island gained a fearsome reputation for cruelty and vile magicplugin-autotooltip__small plugin-autotooltip_bigMagic

Various arts are described as magical, from common street illusionists, village herbalists, and rituals for the intercession of deities. However, true magic is the art and science of elemental mastery, harnessing elemental creatures and instructing them to perform simple or complex tasks.

the black ships of Keeyag had ceased raiding the shoreline, and little was heard from them again until the island was destroyed for its evil deeds, at the start of the Beryl Epoch.

Legends from the island of Besoa claim that the mage-masters of Keeyag founded the Kingdom of Derailad, one of the historic Four Kingdoms of Besoa.
