The Eloyoun people are an ethnic group found throughout eastern and northeastern AnĂ¡sthias. They are the majority ethnicity in Kahtoyn and most of southern Harthera. Modern Hartheran language and culture is a blend of Eloyoun and Iskean.
The Eloyoun people claim descent from the ancient realm of Harthera dialect was heavily influenced by Iskean, particularly the more clipped and gutteral Junda pronunciation, though its vowel inflection is much simplified and its case structure is significantly different.
Historically the coast of Ravorr was settled by Junda peoples, referred to as the Junda Coast. Junda were very active traders, bringing new words and terms to otherwise isolated peoples in the region. In later centuries Rouvawetig also acquired trade words from many other languages.
Since Ravorr's conquest by Harthera some five hundreds years ago the majority of Ravorrans have become acculturated as Hartherans, and the vast majority speak Hartraan. However, many still speak their native language in private, particularly the agrarian poor in rural areas, though this is frowned on by polite society and considered a sign of ill breeding.
Both the Oonari and Saloyans considered Rouvawetig to be an ugly debasement of the pure Eloyoun tongue, and the language is frowned upon by modern Hartherans.
