The aubrac is the result of hundreds of years of breeding from the semi-wild aurox, but aubracs generally have smaller horns, are less massive, and far less aggressive. Many breeds of aubrac exist and they are kept throughout the civilised world, though their relatively high maintenance costs, susceptibility to diseases, and lake of natural defences against predators, make them only available to wealthier nations with more intensive agriculture.
