Maresh Hills

The Maresh Hills are an upland region on the western edge of the Mangasor Basin in central Ororrplugin-autotooltip__small plugin-autotooltip_bigOrorr

Geologically the hills are a karst escarpment of sedimentary and igneous rock, pocked with caves. Any rainfall immediately sinks through the porous rock, making the hills dry and almost devoid of vegetation other than hardy virid scrubplugin-autotooltip__small plugin-autotooltip_bigVirid scrubland

Virid scrubland is a region where low-growing virid vegetation is the predominant life. Scrubland is often the result of thin poor soils and low rainfall. It can also be an intermediate landscape in areas destroyed by fire.

. The exception to this is the famous temple complex of Foratuna, built around a sink hole formed by natural springs, where lush vegetation seems to miraculously grow out of the bone-dry ground.

This oasis of life has long been a point of worship for the local nomadic people, and has been permanently occupied as a religious site since the 9th century BME. Today Foratuna is home to a grand temple complex which hosts hundreds of pilgrims every year, the end of the Shouft or Great Pilgrimage of the Therist faith.
