Sea silk

Sea silk is a fine, opalescent fabric produced by the virid bisiavir clam. These grow in clear tropical waters and can grow to a large size.

They excrete fine filaments which anchor it to rocks. Bisiavir clams require a certain depth of clean water and a firm bedrock to thrive, making cultivation of them difficult.

Harvesting the silk requires divers to cut the filaments from about half of each clam. In some areas silk is only harvested towards the end of the storm tideplugin-autotooltip__small plugin-autotooltip_bigStorm tides

Storm tides are particularly high tides, often accompanied by storm surges and dangerous flooding, which occur on Helevos every 1.3 solar years when Helevos comes into conjunction with the giant planet Kwato'or. Storm tides are at their peak within a two week period, and at their most severe when accompanied by natural storms.

Sea silk is hence a valuable and highly prized commodity for otherwise poor coastal regions. It is particularly harvested on the long hazardous coast of Gedoq in Harthera, and parts of Cavann and Moritarr provinces in Ororr. On the island of Vetth, sea silk is almost exclusively used for making strong, light sails.
