According to the tales of Anrel Isles recounted in the Tirennion and elsewhere, the ancestors of the Gikrik rebelled against the strictures that confined humankind to the Realm of the Godmen during the mythic Emerald Epoch. Since they were forbidden from inhabiting any other land, they changed their bodies to live in the waters.

The concepts of race and ethnicity in the Civilised World are complex, related to issues of history, geography and culture. Some theories of the origins of humanity claim that all humans are descended from a single group of original ancestors, while others believe mankind is made up of distinct races with separate origins. The tale was popular in Miyarris, and legends of frogmen abound in eastern Anásthias. They are said to thrive in the huge swamps of Tiernas Bay. This myth likely derives from Li-bam-ethnic people living in the swamps, their pale iridescent scale-like skin and prodigious ability to hold their breath being mistaken for inhuman abilites.

No solid evidence exists of “frog men”, but modern folklorists speculate that a race of amphibious jinnies may exist, or may have existed in the past, the real inspiration for fanciful tales.
