The Saloyan Civil War was a protracted conflict between bitterly opposing forces in the Grand Palatinate of Saloya, in northwest Anásthiasplugin-autotooltip__small plugin-autotooltip_bigAnásthias

Anásthias [a-NAS-thee-ass / ænæsθiːæs], or [an-ass-THEE-as] is an equatorial island continent, heart of the Civilised World. The north straddles the equator and is hot and humid, while most of the equatorial centre is an upland plateau with fertile river valleys, and stretches of arid plains and desert in the shadow of the mountains. The dispute was over leadership of the nation, between on one side the Electorists, who believed new leaders should be elected by a republican system, and the Rightists, who believed it should be decided amongst the small group of patrician families who had traditionally ruled as Palatine.

The two groups comprised many other factions. Amongst the Electorists were those who wished suffrage restricted to a narrow group of the landed elite, to the most progressive, who wished federal systems of local assemblies, in which all had a vote. Amongst the Rightists there were many individuals with a desire to rule the whole nation themselves, only waiting for the Electorist rabble to be defeated before the final battle with their internal rivals.

The two broadly opposing forces who were often prone to fighting each other as much as their enemies.
