Academy schools, not to be confused with the Schools of Thought, were elite educational establishments for children found throughout Anrel. They taught a curriculum approved by the Rasian Academy, consisting of the Three Pillars: Grammar (including reading, languages and literature), Logic (including mathematics, reasoning and critical thought) and Holistics (including natural sciences, human behaviour and biology, anatomy, history and governance).

The Rasian Academy is the common name for the Grand Academy of Rasia, the greatest institution of magic and learning in the Anrel Isles.
They were created as feeder schools for the Rasian Academy, giving students a thorough grounding in the skills and educational background necessary to become Academy members. Students were assessed annually, so that those showing the necessary aptitude to attend the Academy were given more specific education necessary for a later career in thaumaturgy, while others were given a broader education equipping them for general life.
The first schools were founded in Rasia and paid for jointly by the Great Schools, but later institutions were paid for privately, or by communities. Many survived on generous donations from nobles wishing to gain social status.
A selection of academy schools were mainly boarding schools, taking promising students from smaller communities wishing an academy education for their children, while those in larger cities were primarily day schools.
The first academy schools were established in the 9th century BMEplugin-autotooltip__small plugin-autotooltip_bigBME (Before Modern Epoch)
Used to date years Before the Modern Epoch., but they declined during the Magisteriate. Many schools were subsumed into the Academy system, training children in a thaumaturgical programme from a young age. The surviving academy schools kept their name but were essentially independent, no longer having their curriculum regulated by Rasia.
During the Long War many schools were abandoned for a generation, fell into ruin or were converted to other use. After the Hexact Revolution, many surviving school buildings were taken over by the Clóadi, and re-opened as Hexact schools.
