Baskers

Baskers are a variety of massive herbivorous whale, who trawl the seas consuming vast quantities of viridspor, zooids, greenfry and green plankton. They are mostly commonly found in temperate latitudes, usually staying far from the shore. They are occasionally hunted by islanders in The Spines and particularly Crish and Varg. Anrel [ANN-rel], or the Anrel Isles, is the most northerly island group in the Natorn Archipelago. It consists of three major islands and numerous smaller ones. The largest, colloquially if infrequently called Mainland, is divided between the kingdoms of Trésard and Narette. The island they are considered to be beloved of the god Natrawul, and so are protected.

In recent decades, Hartheran trawlermen have begun to harvest baskers around Besoa, since their bones, meat and fat all have commercial uses. However, this has lead to an increase in the incidence of noxious seahars in waters around the island, with devastating consequences to shipping and to coastal communities.
