Belikast's Folly

Belikast's Folly, also called Belikast's Tower or, more commonly, the Old Lighthouse, is the ruins of a tower on the northwest coast of the island of Sensatard in the Anrel Isles.

The ruin consists of a head-high ring of stones which were once the foundations of the tower. For many years the ruins were used as a lighthouse warning ships of the treacherous rocks nearby, but further collapse saw the lighthouse fall into disuse.

According to legend the tower was built by Belikast, the notorious magician and Grand Master of Rasia. Its glassy walls were condensed from magical smoke. At first the entire tower was clear as the purest glass and hard as diamong. However, over time the glass but became milky and brittle with exposure to sun and weather, and eventually shattered. Glassy crystal rubble was collected from the site but it soon gained a reputation as a place of evil omen, particularly after the revelations of Belikast's crimes and the unnatural magics he may have wielded at the site.

Fragment's of this rock, called “Belikast's smoke”, is commonly found in the markets of Saria and other northern towns, though it is usually common quartz.
