Birds are similar to mammals in that they are red-blooded and endothermic, but give birth to young contained within hard carbonaceous shells, somewhat resembling the leathery pods of many virid species. Due to this unusual method of reproduction, bird eggs were subject to predation by many virid species as well as scavenging humbers. Surviving species either build their nests in very inaccessible areas, like eagles, or live in social groups where a constant watch is kept.

During the Emerald Epoch wild bird species were common throughout the Natorn Isles and Traithe, but were not well adapted to climatic change. Domestic species are believed to have survived up to the Beryl Epoch, but became extinct due to over-exploitation and inbreeding approximately 1600 BME.

Some colonies of sea birds still exist in isolated locations, notably the isolated east coast of Anrel and isolated islands in the Polassirn Ocean.
