Dun Jaën

The Dun Jaën [doon jay-ENN] is a mountain range in eastern Anásthias, the northern section of the great arc of mountains which, together with the southerly Dun Trisan, separates Ororr from the remainder of the continent.

The Dun Jaen consists of rugged mountains, including the tallest peaks in the Civilised World, rising up to 8000m above sea level. The foothills to east and west are either virid forest or arid desert, making the heights both impassable and uninhabitable.

The mountains were formed by the collision of tectonic plates, the Ororran Plate to the northeast pushing into the Tiernas Plate. This collision pushed up both mountain ranges, and has cracked the Tiernas plate in two, creating the Torthien Rift Valley which divides the Dun Jaën and Dun Trisan. Within the next few million years, the entire valley will open forming a gulf to the sea.

Name

The name Dun Jaën means “Mountains of Teeth” in ancient Thalsic.
