Garrons stand roughly chest-height to a man, and most varieties are covered with long hair of a reddish-brown or dun colour, making them suited to temperate and cool environments. Garrons are strong but slow and notoriously dim-witted, most not having the learned the sense to avoid eating virid weeds which are as noxious to them as they are to humans. Consequently they are a rarity in the Civilised World, where the nimbler and more versatile drort are more commonly found. The taboo against virid creatures is deeply ingrained in the Anrel Isles, so drort are rare there, the creatures and their owners viewed with hostility and suspicion.

Garrons are strong and easily ridden, working well in teams with large wagons being by six or eight. In warfare they are not easily spooked and have been used to pull chariots, particularly in conflicts in the grassy plains of central Trésard and Anret. However in conflicts such as the Long War, it has been more common for Anrelian cavalry to ride to their battle positions, then dismount and take up offensive or defensive positions.
