The city lies on the eastern shore of Isjbela Bay, an inlet of the Limerent Sea with a large natural harbour. The old city was founded on a defensible headland, which still forms the city's heart though it has grown far beyond the original walls.

Referring to the Kingdom of Hesjbagaaia in Munatan.

The sea is roughly circular and about 200 km across, separated from the Sea of Grace by the Limerent Sound. It is an economically important region for Hesjbagaaia, since the local climate is temperate and the inland coast is protected from intense surges during the storm tide season by the narrow neck of the bay. The sea is well stocked with many varieties of edible green marine life, introduced by EnSanni settlers many centuries ago.

In previous epochs with lower global sea level it was a brackish lake, connected to the sea by river. It reconnected with the sea during the Beryl Epoch, around 3000 BME. Consequently the sea is home to some unique sea life, particularly freshwater species which adapted to the saline environment.
