The region has a diversity of terrains.
Geraltin in the north has a low-lying coast subject to regular devastating inundations by storm tides, and is consequently little inhabited. Its coast consists of virid swamps and salt forests, blending to virid jungle further inland.
Cadal Province occupies the Cadal Peninsula, an isolated region which is mostly agrarian, with hill farming and many scattered villages of the local Jorothi people.

This is in a series of articles about. Traditionally it was home to nomadic Jorothi tribes who regularly culled their numbers with vicious intertribal skirmishes. The Great Prophet dwelled with them for a time and won them over to worship of the Mother, eventually uniting the tribes to form the Mother Army. Since these times the region became less populated, so that today there are still some nomads, but most of the population has shifted to the cities of Narlorn, or settled nearer the coast.
Narlorn encompasses the green valley of the River Narl. It was settled by migrants from Siltorn and the east, who established numerous city-states along the river and cultivated the valley, making it rich, green and fertile. The cities were largely peaceful, though subject to occasional raids and conflicts with the Jorothi in the north or the Othei in the south. The cities were the first outsiders to embrace the Word of the Mother and so pride themselves on their historic role.
Tushal is the southernmost province of dry hills and valleys, with a rugged coastline. It is traditionally inhabited by Othei people, though marginal and infertile, so there has never been a great deal of population. One curious feature is the number of beacons, rough-hewn piles or towers of stone several man-lengths high, used by the Othei ancestors either to communicate with each other or as part of their worship. These towers are seen on hills throughout the landscape, a reminder of the presence of humanity in a deserted environment.
