Mûul

Mûul [MOO-ul] is an island in the Kingdom of Trésard, about 40km west of the Mainland of the Anrel Isles. It is separated from the Mainland by the Res Channel.

Geography

Mûul is 150 km north-south, the southern and western half being hilly and windswept, sheltering the lower-lying east coast, which supports livestock and subsistence farming. The island is entirely green, mainly grassland with stands of coppiced woodland maintained for fuel and construction. The hills to the west are quarried for greenstone, a dark granite with inclusions of greenplugin-autotooltip__small plugin-autotooltip_bigGreen

The Green Kingdom of flora and fauna includes humans, mammals, birds, whales, greenfish, and most green plants and crops cultivated by humankind.
quartz, an ornamental stone valued for sculpture, tiling and construction, particularly in temples.

In earlier epochs in times of lower sea level, the island was connected to the Mainland, with the Res Channel being the valley of the River Lar.

The capital and only city, called Rés or Rés-a-yel, lies on Res Bay to the east of the island, facing the Mainland. The port of Res is host to the island's trade in greenfish, carved wooden objects, and its principle export, spun ovor yarn.

Governance

Although Mûul is officially subject to the kings of Trésard, its small population and lack of important commerce means it rarely sends representatives to the Hexact Synod in Beyán. Instead it is self-governed by an island assembly called the Sordas, headed by its appointed leader, the Sardgrave of Mûulplugin-autotooltip__small plugin-autotooltip_bigAnrel Aristocracy

The Anrel Isles are governed by a class collectively called the Grafen or Graves, individually given the courtesy title Graf. Leaders of towns, cities, and even nations are drawn from this class. Traditionally, leaders are selected by will of the populace, based on their personal qualities and family merits, according to the traditional honour system of Anrel

Folklore

Muul is associated with many legends of the mythic Godmen. Foremost of these relate to the Godmenplugin-autotooltip__small plugin-autotooltip_bigGodmen

The Godmen were the mythical inhabitants of a landmass contiguous with the modern Natorn Archipelago, said to be the ancestors of all the Thalsic peoples of the northern Civilised World. In the Emerald Epoch they created the first great civilisation, referred to as the Realm of the Godmen. The Godmen are said to be mytho-historic, memories of an ancestor race shrouded by millennia of HartheraAnrelAnrelherherAnrelAnrel
hero Tire-Ohn, after whom the Tirennion is named. He fought a battle against the Ancient Enemy and won, but was mortally wounded. The Godmen created a vast mound in which he was either lain to rest, or placed in a chamber where his wounds would heal until he returns to fight again. The island is what remains of that mound, after the surrounding lands were lost beneath the sea.

Artefacts said to be related to the Godmen are occasionally unearthed on the island, the most famous being wafers of emerald green, covered with incomprehensible designs in gold. The markets of Res-a-Yel are full of vendors selling “genuine relics of the Godmen”, though the authenticity of these should be doubted by travellers.
