Ancient Toborr was one of the powers of the ancient world, a city-state and maritime empire centred on the island city of Toborr. Despite losing its empire to more aggressive neighbours, Toborr survived as a self-governing entity for an incredibly long period of history, from it's foundation circa 2900 BME to its absorption into the modern state of Ororr in 47 ME.

ME is short for Modern Epoch, the modern method of numbering years..
Ancient Toborr was one of the Issid Block States, with the first settlement founded around 3700 BME, in a time when the area was rolling hills many miles from the sea. The original city lay to the west of its present location, within what is now muddy delta-land. The city was refounded in its present location on higher ground after the Fourth Epoch (c.2900 BME), eventually becoming isolated as an island.
The modern city was founded at the northern end of the island, this rocky promontory becoming a fort and holy site, the temple of their fire god, the Roaring Man. The city profited from the sea and river trade, its ships spreading the city's influence east and west along the coast, as well as upriver inland. Toborr established colonies along the coast particulary to the east, but to the southwest it eventually came into rivalry with Ancient Remel. Neither state were heavily militarised, but there was fierce competition over land and trading interests, sometimes ending in bloodshed. However, since the two profited most from trading with each other and sharing resources, and since neither had either the strength or willingness to conquer the other, the two fell into a long-standing amicable rivalry.
Toborr was already ancient by the time the Gaals first settled their homeland far to the east, around 2400 BME. As the Gaals grew in strength, crushing their neighbours to become the new Empire of Dor-en-Sann (1903 BME), Toborr went into serious decline as its maritime empire was swallowed by the Ensanni. During this time Toborr became heavily fortified with towers and walls, so that despite many wars and attempts at conquest, the island fortress itself was never conquered. The bitterest blow was seizure of woodland plantations vital to Toborr's shipbuilding industry. Without easy access to wood for ships and fuel, Toborr's navy and one of its principle industries went into terminal decline. This stunting of Occidental naval technology persists to this day.
In later centuries (from c.400 BME) the city came into political and ecumenical alliance with the empire, but continued their worship of the Roaring Man, along with nominal celebration of the imperial Mother Goddess. The city was finally conquered in 47 MEplugin-autotooltip__small plugin-autotooltip_bigModern Epoch (ME)
