The Nar valley has been home to human settlements for many thousand years, but major civilisations grew up there after the fall of Miyarris, when Eloyoun refugees established settlements all along the river's length.
Today the Nar valley is an important economic region. The city of Narillin, at the mouth of the river, is one of worlds great port cities, the third largest city in Harthera.
Nar is the common name for the river in modern Hartraan, which derives from the old Junda name of the city, Mariye.
In ancient Eloyoun the river was Yéhourupf. Marou in ancient Eloyoun means mound or island, hence Mariyé meant “mound/island in the Yéhourupf”.
In ancient Junda “izét” means island, so the city was called Narizet, Junda not having an M sound. Therefore they called the river the Nar.
