Saloyan is an Eloyoun language, the principle language of the former Grand Palatinate of Saloya in northeastern Anásthias. A great many dialects existed, several of whom are still spoken in the Salyoan highlands. The majority of people in the region now have Hartraan as their first language.

The river's name was a source of conflict in early Harthera, since the Saloyans named the river the Verais all the way to the sea, while the Emanuné called it Velun. Consequently some old maps are mislabelled in modern terms, and historical sources have to be read with caution when referring to incidents occuring on the River Verais.
