The city is the gateway to the Kalkot Gorge, since it sits at the foot of the hills which rise to form the cliff-like wall of the gorge. In ancient times it was the most northerly city of the Kingdom of Seqal, a classical Issid city with stone tower-houses and megalithic statues. Most famous were the two giant faces of kings or warriors said to have been cut into the banks of the river, long since eroded away.
Being so far from Seqal the city often came under attack, first from the rival power of Ancient Remel, later by Doroun raiders and latterly by the Empire of Dor-en-Sann. When the Kingdom of Seqal became part of the empire, Sakunut remained under Seqalese control. After the territory was reduced to an imperial satrapy following many rebellions and religious wars, Sakunut became part of the Garnarré. It was given the Doroun name “Moromo”, meaning mouth of the valley. It was largely rebuilt in Doroun style, the old Issid temples and statues destroyed.
Following the conquest of the old empire by the Great Prophet, Seqal lent considerable financial and technical support to building the new city of Torroramai. In gratitude, Sakunut was returned to the province of Sekal and restored to its Seqalese name. Despite this, many Dorouns still call the city Moromo.
Today the city is modern and spacious, with boulevards shaded by green trees, and many grand courtyard houses and temple gardens, echoing the architecture of the nation's capital in a more languid provincial style.
