Triminot

The Triminot [TREE-mee-nott] is a province in the Wiyel Valley in central Ororr, surrounding the city of Remel. Most of the region is tropical wetland surrounded by hills, dominated by lakes and swamps. The central region was greened, drained and turned into arable farmland many centuries ago, becoming an ancient centre of human civilisation. It has been a major exporter of food and grain for thousands of years. In recent centuries Remel has become an important industrial hub for a variety of manufactured goods.

The Triminot is a crescent valley entirely encircled by hills, except for passes to north and south where the great River Wiyel enters and leaves. Within the flat valley the river twists and pools to form extensive swamps, lakes and wetlands. Though much of the land is still marshy, more than half has been drained and reclaimed for agriculture, making the Triminot some of the richest farmland in Ororrplugin-autotooltip__small plugin-autotooltip_bigOrorr

Consequently the region is highly developed and wealthy, with the capital city of Remel being the second largest urban area in Ororr.

The Triminot region is dominated by many bodies of fresh water, naturally surrounded by swamps and seasonal wetlands. The three largest lakes lie on the River Wiyel, and therefore bustle with both fishermen and shipping. According to folklore all three lakes were once part of an ancient sea, silted up by the river over time.

The biggest and longest is Lake Anlutu [ANN-loo-too], 230 km long and 70 km across at its widest point. Anlutu is abundant in freshwater fish, and so big it has waves and occasional storms on its waters. Flat-bottomed pilgrim galleys hug close to the shoreline, and sensible fishermen stay within sight of land. The lake is surrounded by swamps, with the shoreline often rising in the wet season to flood the surrounding shores.

Downriver is Lake Teuhlidung, 150 km long and a 75 km at its widest point. It is separated from Anlutu by a marshy area of swamps and river channels about 40 km long, in which nestles the huge city of Remel. Lake Teuhlidung is particularly wide and deep, and said to be infested with viridplugin-autotooltip__small plugin-autotooltip_bigVirid

Referring to the Virid Kingdom of flora and fauna, toxic to human life. river monsters that overturn boats and devour unwary sailors. Teuhlidung is far less abundant in fish, perhaps because of noxious outflows from the swamps and the city of Remel.

Lake Cleretu is the smallest and furthest downriver, 96 km long and 35 km at its widest point. It is considered the most peaceful of the three, surrounded by farmland and noted for its groves of fruit trees.
