Prune vines grow best in temperate sunny climates with well draining soil. They are often cultivated on sharp or stony soils where other crops cannot grow.

Prune fruits have a small hard seed or stone at their centre. They are eaten fresh but rot quickly and hence do not travel well. Consequently they are either dried or made into wine.
