The interior of the province was made accessible by the Geraltin Road, constructed in the 9th century. The road was controversial due to the central government using convict labour to slash and burn a vast swathe of land through untouched virid jungle. The road cost thousand of lives due to inexhaustion, malnourishment and virid infection.
