The Golden Ordinance is a natural philosophy which was a key element of Miyarrain culture in the latter centuries of the Celadon Epoch. The “ordinance” was thought to be a set of rules or mathematical which were intrinsic to the universe and observed in nature. Its legacy was important to many later movements, from governance to military conflict and aesthetics.

The legacy of Miyarrain poetry, history and natural philosophy is still the foundation of many advanced arts and sciences of the modern Civilised World. It was destroyed by storms and floods marking the start of the Beryl Epoch, over four thousand years ago around 3100 BME. The majority of its ancient cities were lost beneath the Foundering Sea.

History

Governance

Miyarris was not a centralised state. Cities and territories were largely self governing, with leaders who worked closely with each other while also competing for prestige and wealth. Miyarris eventually had four major provinces, ruled from one of the four major cities. Each of these had an advisory council of citizens.

Language

The common language of Miyarris was Mayápo, also called High Miyarrain. According to history, early Miyarrain evolved from previous languages, but Mayápo was consciously designed by the hierarchs of Miyarris as a precise language of science and philosophy. For millennia High Miyarrain remained as a language of science and philosophy throughout Anásthias, but even in the later period of Miyarris there were numerous simpler dialects, which evolved into Proto-Eloyoun, the last common ancestor of Eloyoun language family.

Religion

Miyarris had a complex natural philosophy, in which Man played a supreme role in the natural order of the universe. The intellectual powers of man were seen as unique in nature and therefore precious. However with those powers came great responsibility, both to explore and understand the nature of reality, and to counterbalance the darker impulses and possibilities that came with mankind's unique gifts.

Golden Ordinance

Guardian Spirits

In the High Period of Miyarris there were four Guardian Spirits, one for each of the four home provinces: Hengsrain, Traitherain, Ghirerkrain and Mayarrain. Each of the four spirits were invoked and celebrated at communal ceremonies as great powers, but they were not worshipped as such. They were not gods in the general sense: they were acknowledged as non-human beings, who had no comprehension of human life and foibles, and played no direct role as arbiters of morality or sources of guidance to their supplicants.

Each Guardian had a Priest-King, who possessed a crown used to directly invoke one of the aspects of the gods. The Priest-King had little in the way of temporal power over the people, instead their main duty was to directly invoke the protect powers of their protector-god in times of threat or need.
