Phelorix

Phelorix, also called smokestone, is an extremely hard, glass-like material, said to have been used by the Godmen for constructing towers and cities.

Phelorix can range in colour from translucent, opaque white through grey to dark black. Black phelorix is a semi- or superconducting material capable of absorbing and conducting all kinds of energy, including light, heat, sound and all electromagnetic wavelengths.

The manufacture of phelorix is theorised in texts from ancient Miyarris. It is crystallised from carbon vapour, so that structures made of phelorix are a single seamless crystal. An abundant source of carbon is essential for this process, which is then shaped using some currently unknown form of magic. Miyarrain thaumaturges proposed various theoretical methods for creating pure carbon vapour, but the crucial limitation is the need for a piece of seed crystal for carbon to adhere to.

There are only two known examples of phelorix construction in Helevos, though exactly how they were created is unknown. The first is the so-called Belikast's Folly in the Anrel Isles, a milk-white tower which once stood on the coast of north of the city of Saria on the island of Sensatard. It was said to have been created by the notorious Grand Master of the Rasian Academy, Belikast, as a place for the perverted experiments of himself and his followers. The tower's construction was flawed, so when it was attacked by magisters during his downfall, it shattered like glass into fragments. The foundations still remain, but most pieces of it were thrown into the sea or carried away as trophies, with fragments remaining in private collections.

The only remaining version is the Tower of the Prophet at Foratuna, religious centre of the Mother Church of Ororr. According to Therist belief, the tower was created for him by the power of the Mother Goddess, and is an object of reverence for pilgrims.
