A seahar, also called a viridmist or sporfog, is a sea fog with large water droplets containing the spores of virid microorganisms. When inhaled these viridplugin-autotooltip__small plugin-autotooltip_bigVirid
Referring to the Virid Kingdom of flora and fauna, toxic to human life. spores can cause a number of illnesses, from a cough, rash, fever and delirium, to fatal acute pneumoniosis.
Seahars appear as an unusually dense fog, often with a yellowish tinge like foul smoke. Experienced sailors claim a weather-eye for distinguishing seahars from ordinary mist and fog, but this is not always reliable.
Airborne spores thrive within a narrow temperature range, so seahars are most dangerous to sailors in calm temperate seas. The shallow waters of the Natorn Archipelago are particularly suited to seahars, but virid algae are a favourite food of baskers, who keep surface blooms in check, so that seahars are uncommon. There are still folk tales of islands in The Spines, or remote villages on the east coast of Anrel, being entirely wiped out by toxic seahars.

Anrel [ANN-rel], or the Anrel Isles, is the most northerly island group in the Natorn Archipelago. It consists of three major islands and numerous smaller ones. The largest, colloquially if infrequently called Mainland, is divided between the kingdoms of Trésard and Narette. The island, with its cool calms water, is a notorious region for seahars, and avoided by ships. The wilder coastlines of southern Otekahré and parts of Munatan are also prone to their dangers.
In Anrel, they are called Natrawul's Breath, after the capricious god of the sea. Whales are the servants of Natrawul, who may be eaten but only at the risk of his wrath. Hartheranplugin-autotooltip__small plugin-autotooltip_bigHarthera
The Hartheran Union, commonly named Harthera, is an imperialist maritime nation state dominating the northeast of Anásthias.
