The province name derives from the EnSanni imperial province of Gedoq, which existed from around 280 BME. The imperial stretched from Alonorr (modern Harlon) in the east, westward along rugged coastline, past the northern foothills of the Dun Jaen to the imperial homelands in the west.

Geography
The north of Gadok is low-lying rocky coastline prone to floods and storm tides, with miles of treacherous rock-beds exposed at low tide, hazardous to shipping. It has always been sparsely inhabited though there are some towns on higher ground, and a few ports in the rare accessible harbours. Storm tides are particularly high tides, often accompanied by storm surges and dangerous flooding, which occur on Helevos every 1.3 solar years when Helevos comes into conjunction with the giant planet Kwato'or. Storm tides are at their peak within a two week period, and at their most severe when accompanied by natural storms. scouring former swamps down to bedrock and showing storm surges to flood far inland. However much of the virid jungle has been replaced with greenwood plantations and the little subsistence farming that is possible in the region's thin soil.
Gedoq provides some few economic resources, notably timber, salt, dried greenfish and artefacts made from shells and other products from the sea. Due to its lack of ports and neglected roads, it remains a poor and underpopulated region.
