The north straddles the equator and is hot and humid, while most of the equatorial centre is an upland plateau with fertile river valleys, and stretches of arid plains and desert in the shadow of the mountains. The south is temperate but more wild, separated from the civilisations of the north by the almost impassable Harthera

Geography

Ororr is a huge nation with climates ranging from hot tropical maritime to arid desert to cold upland tundra. It is divided into six autonomous regions, representing historic ethnic, economic and geographic boundaries. The regions are largely self governing, but major laws and general policy are made on a national level as determined by the Mother Church.

Dunasanin is the central, traditionally most populous and most economically important region, comprising most of the Wiyel Basin. It includes the national capital, Torroramai.

Deltirot to the southeast encompasses what was once the Kingdom of Deltirot and the three main upper branches of the River Wiyel, the Green Wiyel with its fertile plains and the heartlands of old Deltirot, and the more sparsely populated valleys of the Blue Wiyel and the more arid Red Wiyel. It is a rich farming region in the foothills of the mountains, supplying foods and luxury goods to the central belt.

Gaskanin is the northeastern region, including the old Imperial heartlands surrounding Galkesh, the rolling hills of Cavann, and the thick virid jungles nestled against the Dun Jaen mountains bordering Harthera.

Gildon to the southwest is the mostly recently conquered region, once forming part of the Ennseperan Empire. Geographically it is a mixture of greenplugin-autotooltip__small plugin-autotooltip_bigGreen

Mangasor is the desert heart of the nation, with the spiritual home of the Mother Church located at Foratuna. It is technically a Protectorate under direct rule of the Meisinn, the church-state's highest spiritual leaders at Foratuna, but essentially operates the same as other regions.

Moritarr, also called Old Ororr, lies to the northwest. It is the poorest region, consisting of marginal swamp and jungle in the north, dry plains and precarious coastline to the northwest, with the southern valleys having the only significant population.

. Constitutionally the church and government are one, though in practice there are numerous institutions and branches of government responsible for civil administration, judiciary, military and theology.

  • The nine Gamiri, also called the Nonarchy or The Nine, are the national executive. They are the heads of the nine senior ministries of state, responsible for leading and carrying out policy. The nine are subdivided into three groups of three, each with one leader and two junior ministers. Gamiri are elected by the Krikaré.
  • The Krikaré or House of Elders, also called the Kritarchy, are the national legislature. They are an assembly of senior officials from government bodies across the nation. They deliberate on and determine policy and law. Its membership is not fixed, but generally is around four hundred.
  • The Meisinn are the twelve hierarchs at Foratuna, said to be in direct communication with the Mother, who represent the nation's spiritual leaders. The Meisinn are the ruling council of the Mesekk, the body of priests and priestesses said to be in direct communication with the Mother.
  • The National Convocation usually meets every four years, and consists of all the major leaders of government bodies, the military, the Krikaré and Gamiri, as well as elected leaders of cities, districts and provinces throughout the nation. The Convocation debates current policy and can potentially veto unpopular national laws.

Each region is made up of provinces and districts, each with their own local leaders and local assemblies. Each polity, be it a village or city district, is centred on the local pandata or temple, where the people meet to discuss various issues. Their views are escalated upward to form district, provincial and national policy.

Law

All laws derive from the teachings and writings of the Prophet. Most offences are dealt with at a local level, imprisonment and community servitude being the preferred punishment. Criminals can also volunteer, or be nominated, to take part in a penal version of the Shouft, the religious pilgrimage in which they are expected to row ships as galley slaves, and carry out manual labour at Foratuna.

People

The Ororran people are a pan-ethnicity, though in fact the nation is made up of many ethnicities. The overwhelming majority are West Thalsic peoples, with some Iskean peoples in the northeast, Essep in the southwest, and Li-bam in Deltirot and the far south. In the early centuries of Ororr, national policy was to respect ethnic and languageplugin-autotooltip__small plugin-autotooltip_bigLanguages

differences, particularly since previous empires had repressed various peoples. However, Dorouns still dominate much of Ororr, being the greatest in number and occupying the wealthier metropolises of the lower River Wiyel.

Languages

Doroun is the one official language of Ororr, since the Prophet's holy books were written in this language, and the administrative centres of the nation are situated in Doroun-speaking parts of the nation. All pandata schools teach the Doroun language, but local languages are also protected by law. Many of the autonomous regions also have official languages used by local government, such as Daltirich in Deltirot, as well as minority local languages.
