Kingdom of Sann'al

The Kingdom of Sann'al [SAN-AL sæn'æl] (from arch. Senna'al), also called Royal Sann'al or simply Sannal, was a historic nation in the northern half of the island of Besoa that existed from its founding c.1500 BME, to 1092 ME when it was annexed by Harthera at the end of the Bizoan War.

Near the end of the war the Sannali royal court fled the capital, Perilth. They were permitted to settle in Belisan Freeport in Narette where they estabilished the Sann'ali court-in-exile. In 1114 a combined military force of Besoan exiles reconquered the island, establishing the new United Kingdom of Besoa.

History

The valley of the River Palkan in northern Besoa was settled in the middle period of the Jade Epoch, and has been a centre for human agriculture ever since, a period of perhaps ten thousand years. The region shows evidence of many flourishing city states throughout this period.

The Kingdom of Sann'al has its origins in an agrarian society, the Senna'al (possibly meaning “people of the grain”), established in what was then central upland Besoa circa 2000 BMEplugin-autotooltip__small plugin-autotooltip_bigBME

. As coastal communities suffered the onslaught of rising sea levels, Sann'al became pre-eminent. It was established as a kingdom, ruled from the porty city of Perilth, around 1500 BME, and came to dominate the northwest of the island.

Sannal was originally an agrarian neighbour to the Kingdom of Heronbar, which dominated trade in the nearby seas. This rivalry saw occasional border conflicts, culminating in the Battle of Four Kingdoms in 35 MEplugin-autotooltip__small plugin-autotooltip_bigModern Epoch (ME)

The Modern Calendar is a dating system acknowledged throughout the Civilised World. It numbers years from the Modern Epoch, abbreviated ME and BME (Before Modern Epoch). It is also called the Modern Era.
